The Japanese Embassy in Afghanistan has warned Japanese citizens staying in the country that a terrorist group may be planning to kidnap a Japanese woman and three other foreigners, embassy officials said Tuesday.
The embassy is examining information provided by a nongovernmental organization monitoring local security but has yet to pin down the purported targets, said the officials.

There are about 170 Japanese citizens living in Afghanistan, about half of them women, according to the embassy.
